Xisco Muñoz begins to fulfill his promise to Watford

03/02/2021

Xisco Muñoz, manager of Watford, begins to fulfill his promise to the Hornets after a month on the bench of the English team.

The Championship, the second-tier of the English football league, is one of the toughest leagues in Europe due to the high level of competition between clubs and the low points difference between the top and bottom half of the table. That, added to the financial package that the English Federation distributes among the recently relegated Premier League teams to avoid economic disaster, makes the category a land only suitable for the bravest.

Xisco Muñoz arrived at Watford on December 21, 2020 and his aim was clear: to get the team into the play-off zone. The coach's track record at Dinamo Tbilisi was on his side. Many more victories than defeats. And as soon as he arrived, he made a promise. "My team will fight like animals and show commitment and respect for the shirt".

Five days later, a match against Norwich City, leaders of the championship. A 4-4-2 diamond formation, enough organization and personality with players like Tom Cleverley, Troy Deeney or Ismaila Sarr, and a tight victory. Weeks later, three wins in a row and a draw to keep Watford in the play-off zone.

It’s still too early to rush and dream of promotion, but it’s undeniable that Xisco is fulfilling his promise. The team are playing with more freedom and harmony is being joined by effectiveness. Will they have limits?
