Carles Gil and Brandon Bye’s New England Revolution qualifiy for the playoffs’ conference semifinals as MLS regular season leaders

//

The club from Foxborough, Massachusetts, has completed a regular season which is going to enter the Major League Soccer’s history books. The team, led by Carles Gil and young players like Brandon Bye, both represented by Promoesport, has overtaken, with 73 points, the record that Los Angeles FC had established back in 2019. Besides, they left the second of the eastern conference, Philadelphia Union, 19 points behind.

These numbers make evident the favoritism of New England Revolution ahead of the playoffs. Postseason begins after the international break, on November 20th, even though both leaders –Colorado Rapids has won the western conference– get directly to the conference semifinals, which are going to be disputed in November, between the 25th and the 30th. In case of advancing, the conference finals will be played on December 4th and 5th, and the MLS Cup champion will be decided on December 11th.

Carles Gil, team’s MVP for the second time in three seasons and favorite for MVP of the MLS, led the league in assists, with 18, just one away from the club’s record. Besides, his 126 created chances are also a new MLS record. On the other hand, the young Brandon Bye, who played almost the entire season as right-back, has been the revelation player. He made a key pass per game, and he completed more passes on the opposite half than on the own, a good signal of his weigh on the attack. Defensively, his 5,5 won duels per game stand out.
