Panathinaikos, the team where Promoesport's
Fran Vélez and
Rubén Pérez play, won the
Greek Cup. The club from the capital won 1-0 against
Paok Thessaloniki, also represented by
Promoesport,
Nelson Oliveira.
It was a very intense match and marked by a lot of controversies, due to the incidents caused by the fans of both teams before, during and after the match.
The Athenians had not won this cup trophy for 8 years, a competition they have historically been good at, as they are the second most successful team with 19 titles. Fran Vélez and
Rubén Pérez were in the
starting line-up for this vital match, as they have been
indispensable for their coach this season. They also played the full 90 minutes of the match.
This is the first title won by both Rubén Pérez and
Fran Vélez in
Greece and the first of the new era of
Panathinaikos, who will return 5 years later to European competition, as with this title they automatically qualify for the
Conference League 2022/2023.
